Optimus Selects Nortel Networks to Deliver UMTS Network in Portugal – Nortel Networks Corp – universal mobile telecommunication system – Brief Article

Optimus, a subsidiary of Sonae.com and France Telecom, has selected Nortel Networks to supply wireless Internet infrastructure equipment and services for build out of its third-generation network in Portugal.

Nortel Networks will provide Optimus with radio infrastructure equipment in Northern Portugal, including Nortel Networks e-mobility Internet base transceiver station (BTS) and Internet radio network controller. This award further strengthens Nortel Networks leadership position in delivering the high-performance wireless Internet in Europe, and in Iberia in particular, where Nortel Networks has now won five UMTS awards.

Nortel Networks has now announced 12 UMTS awards, including 11 in Europe – from incumbent operators BT Cellnet, T-Mobile, One 2 One, max.mobil, Telecel, Omnitel, Airtel, Optimus, and Mobilkom; and ‘greenfield’ providers Xfera and ONI WAY – and one from AT&T Wireless in the US.
