Orbis selects Mobile Commerce’s location gateway API
TELECOMWORLDWIRE-20 October 2005-Orbis selects Mobile Commerce’s location gateway API(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Mobile content distributor, Mobile Commerce, announced on Wednesday (18 October) that Identisafe and Identitrak, lone worker protection services provided by Orbis, are using its location gateway API.
According to the company, the aim of the service is to increase the safety and security of those who work alone, for example central and local government staff, NHS staff, utility / transport workers and all other sectors where individuals work alone.
The service is understood to use a Lone Worker Protection Device which is linked to the Orbis 24 hour monitoring centre. When an individual finds themselves in a dangerous situation, they press a ‘red alert’ button, which opens a one way voice channel with an emergency operator and sends an SMS to the alarm centre, where the user and their pre-arranged emergency protocols are identified. The operator then enacts these protocols and obtains the location-based services (LBS) information on the whereabouts of the individual using Mobile Commerce’s Location Gateway, the company claims.
According to Mobile Service, other new companies/services that are using Mobile Commerce’s location gateway include KidsOK; ChildLocate; MobileLocate; Consorte; RHA Telecom; CMM – Smart text; MobileSOS; and Beep Services.
No financial details of the service were disclosed.
