UK-based Flint Distribution’s Flint Smart division has launched a new compact smart card reader called GemPC-Touch 440.
Developed by Gemplus, the product comes with a 15x15mm fingerprint sensor to reduce the incidence of fraud from misuse of pin numbers and access codes. The user’s fingerprint is stored onto a smart card, with the reader capturing and verifying the fingerprint for authentication.
Measuring 19x61x92mm and weighing 85g, the reader unit is powered from any PS/2 keyboard port and it also connects to the parallel printer port. Other features include an ability to read from and write to all types of ISO7816-compatible microprocessors and memory cards and the inclusion of PC/SC software drivers and documentation to develop applications in C, Visual Basic or Visual C++ under Windows 2000/9x/NT4 environments.
Availability and pricing were not revealed.
