As bandwidth becomes a commodity, service providers hoping to boost revenues from existing infrastructure will need to offer tiered service levels. To guarantee they can deliver what they promise, vendors such as Allot Communications are offering new tools for managing bandwidth and monitoring QoS. Allot’s new NetEnforcer AC-302 and AC-402 bandwidth management devices allow carriers to over-subscribe their networks yet enforce SLAs, stopping excessive consumption of bandwidth and putting it to profitable use. Allot says the AC-302 handles network traffic at up to 45 Mbps, while the AC-402 can manage at up to 100 Mbps. They both include an additional Ethernet port that lets carriers access the NetEnforcer via a sub-network used for management traffic, allowing carriers to improve security by keeping network users isolated from the NetEnforcer’s management functions. Both devices are available.
