WLAN shipments – Insight – leading sales were Buffalo/Melco, Cisco, Samsung and Garner’s John Calvert – Brief Article
Unit shipments of wireless LAN gear in Asia-Pacific grew 75% last year to 3.4m units, but sales increased at a comparatively slower rate of 41.4% to $390m.
Leading the sales thanks to its strong performance in Japan was Buffalo/Melco, which accounted for 30% of end-user spending, followed by Cisco with 12.7% and Samsung with 6.9%. Gartner’s John Calvert said the bundling of WLAN and broadband services and demand for mobile access to corporate apps would continue to drive WLAN gear sales. However, security concerns continue to be a constraint.
