Low-capacity voice trunking gateway

Low-capacity voice trunking gateway

RAD Data Communications has developed a low-capacity voice and data gateway for both IP and leased-line TDM networks.

The Vmux-110 gateway is a customer-located product offering full E1 compression over Ethernet at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions, RAD says.

The system supports one sub-E1/T1 port, one serial data main-link port and up to two 10/100BaseT ports. It compresses voice traffic and transports it over an n x 64 kbps for satellite applications or IP link. It employs G.723.1, G.729 AnnexA and G.711 compression algorithms, together with RAD’s TDM over IP (TDMoIP) multiplexing, including transparent CAS and CCS signaling support.

“If and when the customer or its carrier migrates to an IP network, TDMoIP multiplexing will allow the Vmux-110 to continue to serve the customer by offloading TDM on to a less expensive IP network, reducing capex and opex,” says Ron Sapir, senior product line manager at RAD.

“The TDMoIP driven Vmux-110 enables all the familiar features of TDM telephony to continue to be employed after migration to IP without having to upgrade or fine tune any existing equipment.”

Sapir says the device is especially relevant to point-to-multipoint applications and suited for a range of industries, including small to medium-sized enterprises, the electric and transport sectors, as well as government and the military.

RAD will launch the Vmux-110 at CommunicAsia 2004.
