UK Sage buys Canadian accounting leader, adds CRM

* UK Sage buys Canadian accounting leader, adds CRM Sage Group recently closed a deal to buy North American business management software vendor Accpac from Computer Associates.

The deal, net of cash held in Accpac, is worth 60.2m [pounds sterling] ($108m), and will be paid for in cash.

It is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to complete by the end of February

Accpac sells accounting and CRM software for small and medium-sized businesses and bas over 140,000 of what it defines as large SHE customers in the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia and Singapore.

Accpac also has 400,000 small SMEs, predominantly in Canada, as customers, which it services through a network of over 7,000 channel partners. It does roughly $90m in revenue and is profitable.

The acquisition of Accpac will establish Sage with a market-leading position in Canada and it will run Accpac out of its existing US Best Software branded operation.

Sage plans to use the acquisition to offer the Accpac CRM system to its wider customer base, Computer Associates held around 90% of the shares, which it had plans to IPO this year.
