Adobe Systems Inc. will make a foray into the royalty-free digital-image market this week at Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

The company said its Adobe Image Library comprises 30 titles of stock photography, three illustration collections and six volumes of video clips, with more titles to be added every quarter.

Adobe said it developed the collection through an alliance with SuperStock, a stock photo agency in Jacksonville, Fla.

Each of the 39 thematic photography titles contains 100 drum-scanned images, and are all organized into four categories: Business, People & Lifestyles, Nature, and Design. The collection includes vintage images from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s.

The photos and illustrations come in high-resolution CMYK and low-resolution RGB formats and measure 9 by 12 inches at 300 dpi.

Each photography title costs $299.99, with illustration and video titles at $229.95 and $249.99, respectively.

The high-resolution video titles are formatted in D1-NTSC or D1-PAL (European) resolutions and come as QuickTime files. The 24-bit clips are full-screen.

Adobe said the art elements are royalty-free with no special usage fees; however, users are restricted from using images on more than one computer at a time or redistributing them on the Web or CD-ROMs.

Adobe includes a $19.99 resource book that comes with a CD-based catalog. The company also plans a Web site (www.adobestudios.com) where customers can purchase single images for $99.99 each.

Adobe Systems Inc. of San Jose can be reached at (408) 536-6000 or (800) 833-6687; fax (408) 537-6000; www.adobe.com.

Adobe Image Library offers hand-illustrated images such as this one, as well as volumes of photographs and video clips, all royalty-free.
