SurfControl warns of brand spoof spam e-mail
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Web and e-mail filtering company SurfControl (London: SRF) has announced that brand spoofing spams have increased by almost 500% since January 2004.
Brand spoof spams attempt to get the e-mail recipient to disclose personal information or confidential details such as banking details, PIN numbers or passwords. This is achieved by making the e-mail look as though it is from an official source.
SurfControl has advised users to follow common sense e-mail security management policies and install filtering technology that can detect the presence of blended threats such as viruses and malicious code hidden in HTML.
