Opening of 5.8GHz Band C by UK Government to increase broadband internet availability in rural areas – Brief Article

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The UK Government Department of Trade and Industry is opening the 5.8Ghz Band C spectrum on 2 of February 2004 for the provision of broadband fixed wireless access services.

The 5.8GHz Band C – ranging from 5725 to 5850 MHz – will be open to existing telecomms and Internet Services Providers as well as being available to the community, health and educational sectors.

Communications regulator OFCOM are to manage the authorisation to use the band which the Government hopes will increased broadband internet availability in rural areas of the UK.

OFCOM will begin accepting 5.8GHz Band C licence applications from the 5 of January 2003.
