Data from research company Nielsen//NetRatings shows that the UEFA Euro 2004 championship has attracted more visitors than ever before to sports web sites.
The company said that analysis of the UK audience during the first week of the tournament shows a unique audience of 900,000 people for BBC Sport alone with four other sites, including the official UEFA Euro 2004 site, attracting between 150,000 and 200,000 individuals.
Traffic levels at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport reached a peak during England’s second group match against Switzerland on 17 June 2004, mainly due to the fact that it kicked off while many people were still at work.
Nielsen//NetRatings has predicted that 25m Europeans would view Euro 2004 related content during June and July 2004.
