New video chat service launched by AOL

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Internet entertainment company America Online (AOL) has announced that it will let the users of its iChat instant messenger service utilise a video connection.

The move will enable instant messenger users to access a video chat service that will let them communicate and view other members. The video link service will be possible for users of the new AOL Instant Messenger 5.5 software.

The Federal Communications Commission lifted restrictions in August 2003 that prevented the company from offering services such as live video. These were placed as a condition of its approval of the merger of AOL and Time Warner in 2001.

The services are free to users.
