Entire Penguin list available online for first time – Brief Article
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Penguin has become the first major publisher to offer all of its titles for sale on its own website.
The books are sold at full price, with extra charges for postage and packing, although discounts have not been ruled out for the future.
A spokesperson for the publisher said that in an ever more complex market place it was hard for bookstores to carry the entire Penguin backlist, and that the company wanted to find a way for all of its books to be available.
No extra money has been spent to promote the site, and it does contain links to other retailers. A spokesperson said that Penguin sees the site as an experiment to see how many people will buy, and is an effort to test the company’s ability to sell books, reports Publishers Weekly.
