E-mail management company Email Systems has reported that new statistics show that the amount of pornographic spam dropped by 92.5% during February 2005, as spammers move onto dating, financial services and scam mails.

The company said that spam as a whole increased during the month, with spam offering dating services rising by 171%, financial service spam rising 107%, and scam e-mails up 70%. Medical and pharmaceutical related spam remained the most prevalent, making up over 47% of all spam. The statistics were compiled from the e-mails sent across the company’s wide-ranging client base.

A spokesperson for Email Systems said that the decline of pornographic spam is incredible considering it was the most prevalent type of spam 12 months ago, and that the drop shows that spam has shifted towards overtly promoting scams, financial incentives, cheap products and other consumer-focused opportunities.
