A spokesperson for Internet portal AltaVista has made a statement on the recent block placed on its site by the Chinese Government.

Kevin Eyres, general manager of AltaVista, said that the company was concerned to learn of the block and that work is being carried out on how to provide an alternative method of accessing the site to Chinese Internet users.

Eyres went on to claim that Chinese users could still obtain access to other AltaVista country sites such as http://www.altavista.ca, http://www.altavista.ie, and http://www.altavista.de – it is only the http://www.AltaVista.com and http://www.AltaVista.co.uk sites that have been blocked.
