Akamai outage hits major websites

Content delivery provider Akamai suffered an unexplained outage on 15 June 2004 causing problems for well known sites such as Google, Apple and Yahoo.

Akamai handles some 15% of the world’s total Internet traffic. The company said that the problem was with its domain name system which helps computers find where a particular a web address is on the Internet. When the system does not work users can not access the pages they want.

The company is yet to explain what caused the problem, reports I.T. Vibe.
