Air transport IT provider SITA and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are allowing airlines worldwide to use their two-character airline designator code with the new ‘.aero’ domain.

The new standard will enable customers to quickly access the airlines’ web sites, without having to enter long URLs. For example www.britishairways.com will now become ba.aero. Northwest Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways have also implemented the new domain names – NW.aero and CX.aero.

The ‘.aero’ domain name is exclusively reserved for those involved in the aviation industry, and more than 2,200 ‘.aero’ domains have been purchased so far.
