Panasonic’s CF-270: The perfect notebook? – laptop computer – Product Previews
Steven C.M. Chen
If perfect means the incorporation of desktop computer features in a lightweight notebook design, then the Panasonic CF-270 comes pretty close. The $3,999 notebook sports the kind of crisp VGA LCD usually found only on larger, heavier portables. Unlike other lightweight units that lack a built-in floppy-disk drive, the CF-270 features both a 3.5-inch (1.44MB) floppy and a fast 25ns 20MB hard-disk drive. Powered by a 16MHz Intel 80C286 microprocessor, the CF 270 should operate about 33 percent faster than typical 12MHz notebook PCs.
The many features of the CF-270 make it a natural choice for powerful laptop computing, but can it be called perfect? It could shed a few ounces and an inch here or there on its footprint, but for my money, the Panasonic CF-270 is going to be a hard act to follow.
