Gemplus Provides SIM Cards In Brazil – Gemplus’ OiChip – Brief Article

Smart card developer Gemplus [GEMP] developed a subscriber identity module card-based technology for the first launch of GSM in Brazil by Oi, the Brazilian mobile subsidiary of Latin American telecom investor Telemar [TNE].

Gemplus’ OiChip enables Oi to offer services including global roaming and content delivery through SMS. OiChip, which is removable, stores user data including subscription information, phone number and phone directories. It consists of Gemplus’ latest SIM cards for GSM, a dynamic SIM toolkit architecture based on the latest specifications from the SIM Alliance, and Gemplus’ over-the-air platform, enabling operators and users to remotely update information and/or applications secured within the cards.
