Follow through: The Links for Life initiative – golf courses add health services – Brief Article

In November, Pinehurst Resort became the latest–and largest–golf facility to put in place an on-course safety program that includes automated external defibrillators–the lifesaving devices at the heart of GOLF DIGEST’S “Links for Life” initiative (October 1999 issue). The resort will have AEDs in its four clubhouses, with radio-equipped rangers roaming the resort’s eight courses. “We already conduct CPR training for key employees, and we wanted to add a dimension to that,” says Lew Ferguson, golf operations manager. “The ‘defibs’ seem to be the right thing to do–not only for our membership and resort guests, but also for our 120-person golf staff. If it saves one life, then it’s worth it.”
