Ball sitting up: Take a shallow divot
A typical “tight” lie has the ball sitting up on a closely mown fairway. Here we’ve placed the ball on a divot hole filled with sand-another kind of tight lie-to more vividly demonstrate where you should take your divot when the ball is sitting up. As the flying sand shows, the club has contacted the ball first and then the ground beyond it. I like to see a divot approximately two inches long.
