I’m confused. Your Fall Preview 2004 “Interview” with Tom Baker centers significantly on his incredible win at the PBA World Championship. Going into the event, Baker was struggling to earn enough points to qualify for an exemption in 2004-05, but by winning, Baker launched himself to the top of the list by earning a five-year exemption.
Then I turned to your story devoted to the PBA Tour Trials [“When Tomorrow Isn’t an Option,” Fall Preview 2004], which centered on the fight for the last eight, season-long exemptions for 2004-05, and Baker wasn’t listed among the 58 exempted bowlers. Much was made of Ritchie Allen just barely falling off of the list of exempt bowlers at both the World Championship and the Tour Trials, and yet he appears as the No. 48 bowler on the exemptions list in the Tour Trials story.
Somebody dropped the ball on that one?

You’re correct, David–we did drop the ball. While we pointed out that Allen had fallen just short of an exemption twice–getting bumped with Baker’s win at the World Championship and falling 17 pins short of qualifying for an exemption through the Tour Trials–we failed to add Baker and subtract Allen from our list of 58 exempted bowlers in the story.
