While I do not disagree that all bowling balls are plastic (or synthetic) as John Jowdy discusses [“The Fantastic Plastic Ball,” Summer 2004], English is a living language. As a living language, it is constantly being redefined by its general use. Thus, all generally accepted, published, and utilized terminology is therefore correct.
The generally accepted term “plastic ball” is the correct terminology for the polyester bowling balls that most people use to convert 10-pin (or 7-pin for lefthanders) spares.
