PUC probing Verizon’s YP accounting in NH

PUC probing Verizon’s YP accounting in NH – Brief Article

The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission is investigating allegations that Verizon improperly reported its 2000 revenues by removing its yellow pages directory revenues from its filings in the state.

The PUC has scheduled an Oct. 23 hearing to investigate further if the accounting change resulted in Verizon’s rates for customers being too high. An audit by state officials asserts that Verizon removed its directory revenues from its state unit’s accounting without first receiving permission from the PUC. Verizon is arguing that it filed a new fee-for-service yellow pages agreement with the commission in March 2000 that the PUC never acted on. The company is also claiming it didn’t need commission approval of the contract.

California regulators are conducting a similar investigation in that state. Contact info: Verizon Information Services: 972-453-7000 or www.superpages.com
