2004 XBN Awards
In the first XBN Awards, we recognize not just the blockbuster titles that lead their respective genres, but also those games that deserve a nod for innovation, sound design, technical achievement, story, cut-scenes, and art direction—aspects that other magazines may overlook, but ones we believe are increasingly important to videogames as they close the gap on film and television.
You may not agree with everything you’re about to read. There’s no award for best first-person shooter here, for example, because we think the term is largely meaningless, thanks to a variety of games that defy such simplistic categorization. You can look forward to a few surprises, too, but there’s one thing we can easily all agree on: 2004 was the year of the Xbox.
