Ugandan company to design web portals for 26 communication-
Uganda Home Pages Ltd., a web design firm, has won a tender to design web portals for 26 communication-underserved districts.
Executive Director Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Patrick Masambu, was quoted on Monday as saying by The Monitor that Uganda Telecom Ltd. (UTL) had been awarded a tender to install internet in the same districts, while Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) had been awarded a contract to install basic telephony services to the districts.
These districts include Lira, Nakapiripirit, and Kotido among others.
He said another company would be contracted to install Internet cafes in these districts.
Masambu said the commission has collected about Shs 4.5bn for the Rural Communication Development Fund (RCDF) under which the tenders have been awarded. This amount is 1 percent levy off the earning of the major players in the communication industry and it goes to the commission.
