Siemens to expand Turkey GSM network
The Turkish mobile operator Aycell has commissioned Siemens to further expand its mobile network infrastructure. Under the terms of the agreement, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile (Siemens mobile) will install new components for the core network and the IN (Intelligent Networks) system. The contract is worth more than 23 million euro.
Siemens mobile will also increase the capacity of the Mobile Switching Centers, the Switch Commander, the GPRS system and the IN system, which supports network functions such as prepaid and VPN (Virtual Private Network).
Aycell is a subsidiary of the telecommunications company Turk Telekom and caters for more than 1,3 million customers. Only about 35 percent of Turkey’s 66 million inhabitants currently use mobile phones. Since 2001, Siemens mobile has been the exclusive supplier of GSM/GPRS switching technology and intelligent network services for Aycell.
