Indian exports of computer hardware expand

India’s exports of computer hardware and related parts posted a growth of 50 per cent in 2001-02 at Rs 1800 crore, according to an estimate by Electronics and Software export promotion Council (ESC).

Singapore and Hong Kong were the major destinations for export of computer hardware items from India accounting for 74 per cent of the total exports from the country, D K Sareen, executive director, ESC was quoted as saying by the local press. In absolute terms, exports to Singapore, Hong Kong and other south east Asian states have grown from Rs 1,107 crore to Rs 1325 crore while in value terms, the rise amounted to 20 per cent. European states were the second largest destination for computer hardware exports with an earning of Rs 286 crore in 2001-02 from a mere Rs 18 crore in 2000-01. (Worlditreport.com)
