Vice Admiral Vivien S. Crea reports to the Coast Guard Atlantic Area from her recent assignment as the commander of First Coast Guard District, where she oversaw all Coast Guard operations in the northeastern United States, from the Maine-Canada border to northern New Jersey.
As the region’s senior Coast Guard commander, she led more than 10,000 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women, and maintained operational control over an Air Station, eleven major shore commands, 31 cutters, and 35 stations.
Primary missions included Maritime Homeland Security, Search and Rescue, Marine Safety, Protection of Living Marine Resources, Waterways Management, Marine Environmental Protection, Maritime Defense and Enforcement of Laws and Treaties.
Previous assignments include Chief Information Officer and Director of Research and Development for the Coast Guard; Chief, Office of Programs (budget development and advocacy); Commanding Officer, Air Station Clearwater; Executive Assistant to the Commandant of the Coast Guard; Commanding Officer, Air Station Detroit; Operations Officer, Air Station Borinquen, P.R.; and Coast Guard Aide to President Reagan..
A Coast Guard aviator, Rear Admiral Crea has flown the HC-130 Hercules turboprop, HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and Gulfstream II jet.
Rear Admiral Crea is an MIT Sloan Fellow and holds master’s degrees from MIT and Central Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas. Personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (four awards), and the Meritorious Service Me
