Atchison bowler gives team her best shot at state

Lori Myers, of Atchison, probably will savor her performance at the Kansas Women’s Bowling Association state tournament last weekend for quite some time.

She also might wonder “what if” for a while.

Myers, who carried a 182 average into the tourney, rolled a 257- 247-215 — 719 scratch series (a 239.7 average) that probably would have had a bigger impact had it not come in the team event at West Ridge Lanes.

On the other hand, April Hunt, of Hutchinson, saved her best for the individual events. Hunt teamed with Brandi Powell to claim the Division 3 doubles lead with a score of 1,568 while moving into second place in Division 4 singles — where the top four places changed hands — with a handicap series of 831. She trails Erin Swanson, of Ness City, who grabbed the lead with an 860 total.

The Division 4 team event also gained a new leader, with Signatures Salon, of Marion, edging Old Hen & Chicks, of Columbus, by four pins.

The 61st KWBA tourney will take two weekends off before finishing up April 17-18 and 24-25 at West Ridge and Gage Center Bowl.
