–CMP Media, Manhassett, N.Y., eliminated approximately 200 jobs earlier this month in its most recent round of layoffs. Among those axed were Information Week sales executives Alan Bergstein and John Murphy. In a separate development, CMP has fired Internet Week publisher Patricia Schnaidt and replaced the title’s marketing director Yvonne Diamond and western regional sales manager Ian Owens Ward. A spokesperson for the magazine said company executives felt the publication was not using its leverage effectively to secure new advertising accounts and decided that management changes were necessary. Holly Nissalke is the publication’s new marketing director. She had previously been the marketing director for special accounts at the magazine. Nancy Carter was promoted to western regional sales director. She had previously served as Southwestern regional sales director. Adam Marder, president of CMP’s Business Technology Group, will serve as interim publisher for Internet Week until a permanent replacement can be found. Internet Week was down 36.1% and Information Week was down 39.2% in ad pages through the first nine months of 2001 (TABR, Oct. 8).
–Ziff Davis Media has named former IDG executive Steve Moylan to the newly created position of executive vice president of sales and marketing. Moylan comes to Ziff Davis from ThingWorld Multimedia, an Internet software services company, where he served as chief executive officer. Moylan is also a former CEO, president and publisher of IDG’s InfoWorld; he was also vice president of sales and marketing at ABC Broadcasting. Moylan will report directly to Ziff Davis Media CEO Robert Callahan.
–Former Ziff Davis Internet president Wenda Harris Millard has been named chief advertising sales officer of Yahoo! Millard joined Ziff Davis Internet, a stand-alone subsidiary of Ziff Davis, in December 2000 (CPAR, Dec. 18, 2000) and quickly built its staff. Millard departed the company in September (TABR, Sept. 10) shortly after former Ziff Davis Media CEO James Dunning was fired, the Internet subsidiary was folded into Ziff Davis Media and each publication was given direct control of its individual Web site. In her new position, Millard will report to Greg Coleman, executive vice president of North American operations.
–Former Family PC publisher Andrew Amill was named publisher of Fairchild Publications’ Footwear News. Family PC was shuttered by Ziff Davis Media in July due to poor ad sales.
