WorldPages.com Goes Wireless In Distribution Deal With 2Roam – Brief Article – Company Profile – Statistical Data Included

Internet directory publisher WorldPages.com jumped into the wireless distribution market last month with the announcement of a deal with Web application service provider 2Roam to distribute the WorldPages.com directories.

WorldPages.com’s wireless strategy is a key initiative in our effort to deliver content through devices such as cellular telephones and handheld devices, said Todd Crandell, president of Internet business for WorldPages. “Bringing the Internet directories of white pages and yellow pages listings to users wherever they are and whenever they need them will be a major step in bridging the gap to bring customers together on the Internet,” he said.

Crandell said that the deal with 2Roam enables WorldPages (St. Louis) to deliver its content to any wireless format carrier and allows the company to customize content for each type of wireless device that is used by its consumers.

RDP learned the partnership with 2Roam calls for the companies to share advertising and licensing revenues on a 50-50 basis and that the deal is for one year with a renewal option.

In the first half of 2000, WorldPages reported $3 million in Internet revenues, compared to none in the first half of 1999. Total company revenues in the first half were $66.8 million. The company said that it expects its Internet revenues to account for a larger portion of total revenues in the future, but would not project any specific numbers. WorldPages generates its Internet revenues from advertising and licensing deals.

The deal with WorldPages is the first partnership that 2Roam has closed with an Internet directory customer. The privately held 2Roam, with projected 2000 revenues of $5 million, has acquired such high profile Internet customers as eBay, Fogdog and ShoppingList.com.

Also last month, WorldPages said it plans to offer domain names to its customers through an agreement with Network Solutions Inc., the world’s largest provider of domain name registration services. The deal with Network Solutions calls for WorldPages to work with business customers to register their exclusive domain names and include them in WorldPages.com’s directory.
