Hilo Council members welcome Japanese training ship Ginga Maru

The Navy League’s role in international diplomacy is not limited to overseas councils. The Hilo Council (Hawaii), for example, welcomed the Japanese Training Ship Ginga Maru upon its arrival for the 38th annual International Festival of the Pacific in Hilo. Photo shows, from left: Kenichi Takeno, the ship’s chief engineer; Dannie R. Coates, a national director; Capt. Shouji Kaneda, commanding officer of the Ginga Maru; and Hilo Council President Delores D. Coates.
