Data protection and medical research in Europe
As part of a European Community-funded project, Privacy in Research Ethics and Law (PRIVIREAL), this volume reports on the practical operation and theoretical role of research ethics committees (RECs) and relevant international and national directives. Drawing on data collected from Web surveys, the editors (Sheffield Institute of Biotechnological Law and Ethics) report on the establishment and legal responsibilities of RECs in 26 participating countries from Austria to the UK. This is a companion volume to one featuring keynote papers from an earlier workshop. A brief comparison with US comparables would have been of interest.
