Slam dunk!
Basketball fans were treated to hours of excitement at the NBA 2004 All-Star Game. The Western Conference team beat the Eastern Conference team 136-132. Below is a chart filled with data about the starters and reserve players for the two teams. Study the chart to answer the questions that follow.
1. Who was the game’s leading scorer? How many points did he score?
2. Name the tallest and shortest players in the game. What are their heights?
3. Name the heaviest and lightest players in the game. How much do they weigh?
4. What’s the average height and weight of a Western Conference player? An Eastern Conference player?
5. Graph It! First, select one team. Then, create three bar graphs: One comparing the height of all the players, one comparing the weight of all the players, and one comparing their scores.
Critical Thinking: Study the three graphs you’ve created and the players’ positions from the chart above. Do you think a player’s size and position relate to how well he scores?
