Agency advertising ideas
Fifty years ago, insurance agents thought up ingenious ways to market their agencies. When A. Earl Harger took possession of a Bowling Green, Ohio, agency in January 1926, he was a perfect stranger in the town. He used extensive advertisingpassing out lead pencils, delivering fly swatters to each dwelling in town, mailing blotters to the business places annually, and “picture show” advertising. But his greatest success in establishing the agency’s name in the community came when he had a pony wagon driven by his three children drive around town with “Harger Brothers-Insure with Our Dad” inscribed on the side of the wagon.
