An investigative journalist with a background in history and the criminal sciences, Martin has written previously about her adopted home Colorado, and here tells about labor struggles in the west slope mining town. Members and leaders of the Western Federation of Miners, and Telluride’s Local 63 were so thoroughly castigated by so many that she decided she wanted to know them better. The historical documents revealed that most of them were merely dedicated to ending child labor and creating safe working conditions and fair wages.
