Operators put stake on social responsibility.
The gambling industry is making good progress in its bid to allay government and public concerns over the social responsibility implications of deregulation, an issue that many in the industry fear could delay the long-awaited reforms.
Sir Alan Budd’s Gambling Review Report, recommended that the industry should set up an independent trust and give it 3m [pounds sterling] to research and limit problem gambling when the proposed relaxations to the laws governing betting and gaming come into force. The government’s response, A Safe Bet for Success–Modernising Britain’s Gambling Laws, published in March, backed the recommendation. …
