Protesters at New York’s City Hall demanded a tougher lead paint law on September 12. City Council Speaker Gifford Miller has so far stalled a measure to strengthen the city’s old law, which was thrown out by the courts on environmental grounds last summer. More than 4,000 New York City children are diagnosed with lead poisoning every year, advocates say.
