Offered in plastic, 3-leaded, 1.2 x 1.2 x 0.5 mm SOT-723 package, [micro]ESD dual series diodes provide 2 lines of protection for portable and battery powered applications. Models [micro]ESD3.3D and [micro]ESD5.0D clamp 30 kV ESD transients in less than 1 nsec and clamp ESD pulses to less than 7 V. PHOENIX, Ariz. – August 3, 2005 – A leading global supplier of discrete devices, ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ONNN) today introduced the [micro]ESD (micro ESD) dual series of high performance, micro-packaged electro static discharge (ESD) protection diodes. The [micro]ESD dual series is designed to protect voltage sensitive components for two lines in applications that demand minimal board space and low profiles, such as cell phones, MP3 players and portable gaming systems.

These devices have been designed to maximize ESD suppression performance in the smallest 3-leaded plastic package on the market today. The [micro]ESD dual series clamps 30 kilovolt (kV) ESD transients – per the IEC61000-4-2 standard – in less than a nanosecond to ensure voltage sensitive components are protected. These devices clamp ESD pulses to less than 7 volts (V) to protect the most sensitive systems and minimize disruption in a circuit’s functionality.

The [micro]ESD dual series features the ultra small SOT-723 package. Boasting a 1.2 mm x 1.2 mm outline making it the ideal fit for designers that are limited in board space. The 0.5 mm profile of this package also enables designers to minimize the height of their designs without sacrificing functionality. The two line protection that this series integrates into one package further reduces required board space and system component count, thus simplifying the assembly process.

These new ESD protection devices also improve circuit efficiency and battery life with an ultra low leakage of 0.05 milliamps ([micro]A) in their off state making them ideal for handheld applications. Their low capacitance of 35 Pico farads (pF) makes them suitable for protecting data lines with data rates up to 10 Mbits/second.
