Samsung yepp YP-30S
At 1.6 ounces (with the one triple-A battery it needs), the Samsung yepp YP-30S is a very lightweight contender. It measures 2.6 by 1.7 by 0.5 inches (HWD) and has a tiny but easy-to-read backlit LCD and small control buttons. The layout of the buttons is fine, but operating them can be a minor challenge for those with big fingers.
The YP-30S also incorporates a high-quality voice recorder. But if your primary purpose for it is playing audio tracks, you may want to save the space. The device comes with just 64MB (and no way to expand with removable media), good for about an hour of MP3 tunes encoded at 128 Kbps. Included in the package are earbuds, a wrist strap, a plastic belt clip, and an armband to which you can attach the belt clip. A supplied USB cable lets you connect to a PC to transfer files to the YP-30S using an included audio manager program.
The yepp YP-30S pumps ample volume, but its relatively limited storage is a drawback, unless you don’t mind hearing the same hour’s worth of tracks until you can get back to your PC.
