The City of Arlington, Texas has named Pete Jamieson director of Parks and Recreation. Pete has been with the City of Arlington since 1981 and brings over 20 years of leadership to the position. After starting with the department as an associate planner, Pete was promoted in 1984 to parks planner and in 1986 to assistant director of Parks and Recreation. During his tenure as assistant director, Arlington implemented the most aggressive Capital Improvement Program in the department’s history. He also developed the award-winning Arlington Park, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan. Pete has led the way in promoting the value and benefit of linear parks, and because of his efforts, the Parks department has made substantial progress in preserving property in the floodplain for this purpose. Pete earned a Bachelor’s degree in Park Administration and a Master’s degree in Commercial Recreation from Michigan State University.
