Texas: the Woodlands honored in international competition – NRPA in Action – The International Awards for Liveable Communities awards

The Woodlands, Texas, was one of 32 communities invited to participate in the finals of Nations in Bloom 2003, which was held Oct. 2-6 in the City of Apeldoorn in The Netherlands.

Nations in Bloom is a world-wide competition launched in 1997, that focuses on encouraging and rewarding communities that work toward beat environmental management practices. The Woodlands, Texas, placed second in the Population Category 20,001-75,000. It was judged on how its landscape enhanced the surrounding community; how The Woodlands benefited from the Parks and Recreation Department’s facilities; how the community’s quality of life was increased; and how much involvement residents had with the Parks one Recreation Department’s programs.

In 2004, the competition will be renamed “The International Awards for Liveable Communities” (The LivCom Awards). The Finals of LivCom 2004 will be held Oct. 14-18 in Niagara, Canada.
