Speakers stir “the spirit within us”

At the Arizona Parks and Recreation Conference from Aug. 30-Sept. 3, two speakers will try to stir “the spirit within us,” the theme of this year’s meeting.

The first speaker, Barry Weiss, will discuss “Communicating the Vision,” and believes no profession impacts people’s lives as much as recreation. He is the director of the San Carlos Parks and Recreation Department, as well as president of the California Parks and Recreation Society.

Ralph Showers will also speak at the conference about “Overcoming Challenges.” In 1973, Showers was struck by a low-hanging power line, which resulted in the amputation of both his hands and forearms. In spite of the accident, Showers has authored four books and has brought messages of faith and hope to many through lectures.
