Ten fastest growing occupations requiring a bachelor’s degree – computer and health care professions fastest growing – Brief Article

Computer and health care professions are prominent among occupations requiring at least a bachelor’s degree that are projected to grow fastest between 1996 and 2006. A projection of fastest growth in this category means employment will increase more rapidly in these occupations than in others requiring a bachelor’s degree.

Rapid growth does not necessarily mean a large number of job openings will exist, however; an occupation with small overall employment, such as occupational therapist, may not provide as many new openings as a larger occupation projected to grow less rapidly, such as school teacher. Some occupations, such as computer professions, provide both a large number of job openings and rapid growth. (See the winter 1997-98 OOQ for a chart showing the largest projected job growth in selected occupations requiring a bachelor’s degree.)
