BELMONT, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1999 FEB 9 (NB) — By Newsbytes Staff, Networking Roundup. Wireless networking company Wireless Inc. has introduced the WaveNet IP 2458 wireless access router for point-to-multipoint applications. The company claims the new product offers “complete support of both data transmission and Voice over IP (Internet Protocol) — seamlessly over the same network.” The WaveNet IP 2458 point-to-multipoint wireless access router, operates in the 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) and 5.8GHz license free ISM bands with system capacity up to 20 megabits-per-second (Mbps) per central site, according to the company, which adds that central to remote line of site distances can be up to 20 miles (32 kilometers). The company also says that embedded support for VoIP has been designed into the WaveNet IP 2458 “at a very core level in the design.” This feature reportedly “provides user configurable bandwidth reservations for voice traffic along with voice prioritization to allow the user to control and manage the mix of voice and data traffic on their network.” The WaveNet IP 2458 is made up of central and remote units, with the remote units mounted on the roof or side of a building and connecting to the customer local area network (LAN) via a standard 10Base-T cable.
