She’s part of a team

Secretarial, clerical, administrative services: She’s part of a team

Four years ago, when secretary Peggy Campbell transferred to the counseling office of Orchard View High School in Muskegon, Michigan, work from her previous job in the principal’s office traveled along with her.

“That wasn’t right,” Campbell says. “My job is to be there for the children in the counseling office. I need all my attention focused on listening to them.”

Now Campbell has a chance to address this problem as a first-time member of her NEA local’s contract negotiating committee. Among other things, the committee is seeking written job descriptions.

Campbell has long appreciated her Association-won benefits, like a top-notch health plan. And belonging to NEA, along with the two counselors in her office, has, Campbell points out, “helped us foster respect for each other and made us into an important team.”
