LWV of Greater Tucson – Leagues in Action

For their successful get-out-the-vote campaigns, forums and workshops, LWV of Greater Tucson and League member Jeanne Connell received a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition presented to LWV of Greater Tucson, in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community.” The League concentrated onHispanic areas of the city and, in a letter to Connell, Congressman Ed Pastor (D-AZ) commended the League’s “organizing of forums which gave minority voters ownership of and visibility in the… process.” He noted: “Your work contributed greatly to the record turnout…in these traditionally low voter-turnout areas. Your willingness to build new bridges between the LWV and Tucson’s minority areas should become a model for civic involvement.”
