ELMBROOK SCHOOL DISTRICT
Pending the outcome of a legal battle over the Weston Hills subdivision, the Elmbrook School Board Tuesday denied a petition from residents of the Emerald Ridge subdivision to join the Elmbrook district
Emerald Ridge residents from an area of the town of Brookfield within the Waukesha School District had sought to affiliate with the Elmbrook School District.
Feb. 13, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Roger P. Murphy overturned Elmbrook’s decision to allow students from the Weston Hills subdivision join the district and leave the Waukesha School District. That case may be appealed. According to School Superintendent David L. Cronin, until the Weston Hills legal case is resolved through appeals, the board should not support additional attachment efforts.
Also, on Feb. 21, Elmbrook voters defeated by about 600 votes a $9.9 million referendum to build an elementary school, enlarge and renovate two other elementary schools and convert an elementary school to a middle school, leaving the board uncertain how overcrowding problems for existing students will be resolved.
