2 officers wounded in Grant County shooting
Muscoda Gunfire wounded two law enforcement officers Thursday during an investigation of a stolen vehicle operation on a Grant County farm, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department and news media reports.
The sheriff’s office in Lancaster declined to comment on reports by WISC-TV in Madison, quoting unidentified sources, that deputy sheriffs, Internal Revenue Service agents and state troopers were looking for a chop shop, in which stolen vehicles are stripped for their parts.
A man drove onto the farm, fired a shotgun loaded with birdshot, then surrendered, the station said, identifying the victims as a state trooper and a deputy sheriff.
A Sheriff’s Department dispatcher said two deputies were shot.
One victim was in serious condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, a nursing supervisor said.
Another was in stable condition at the Boscobel Area Health Care facility in Boscobel, a spokesman said.
